The short answer

The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is a temporary residence permit for non-EU nationals who work remotely for an employer or their own company registered outside Cyprus. You cannot use it to work for a Cyprus employer.

It requires proof of stable monthly income from abroad, health insurance and a clean criminal record, and it is issued for one year and renewed. Family members can join you but cannot work in Cyprus on it.

No property purchase is required, which makes it the lowest commitment route into Cyprus. It is a temporary permit rather than permanent residency, so it is worth understanding what it leads to before choosing it over the investment route.

Remote Professionals Who Want
More Than Just Good Weather

The Cyprus Digital Nomad Visa is designed for non-EU nationals who can work entirely remotely. If you generate income from abroad and want a permanent, legally sound base inside the EU, this is the starting point.

Remote Employees of Foreign Companies

Your employer is based outside Cyprus, whether in the US, UK, UAE or elsewhere. Your salary is paid from abroad. The DNV gives you a legal EU residence permit for up to 3 years while you keep your existing job.

Freelancers with Foreign Clients

You work in tech, design, marketing or consulting. Your contracts and clients are entirely outside Cyprus. You invoice from abroad. The visa formalises your right to live here legally and opens EU banking.

Business Owners Paying Themselves Dividends

You own a company registered outside Cyprus and pay yourself via dividends or director fees. Once you elect non-dom status here, those dividends are taxed at 0%. That combination is the reason many founders choose Cyprus.

UK Nationals Wanting an EU Base

Post Brexit, UK nationals can no longer live and work freely in Europe. Cyprus is the fastest, most accessible route to an EU residence permit for UK remote workers, with English as a working language and direct flights from most UK airports.

Families Relocating Together

Your spouse and dependent children are included on derived permits at no extra income requirement. Children can enrol in international or local schools. No separate application is needed for dependents beyond the primary holder's approval.

Those Building Toward Permanent Residency

The DNV gives you 3 years to establish deep Cyprus ties: tax residency, banking, property, and a life here. What comes after is a question of strategy. We plan the full pathway from day one so there are no gaps in your legal status.

What You Need to Qualify

  • ✓
Non-EU Nationality EU nationals do not need this visa. They register under EU treaty rights. This permit is for third country nationals: US, UK, UAE, Australia, Canada, India, and all others.
  • ✓
Remote Work for Foreign Employer or Clients Your employer or clients must be based entirely outside Cyprus. You cannot work for Cypriot companies or serve Cypriot clients on this permit.
  • ✓
Valid Health Insurance A qualifying policy covering Cyprus is required. We confirm whether your existing cover qualifies before you apply.
  • ✓
Confirmed Cyprus Accommodation A rental agreement or property ownership document showing your address in Cyprus. We can assist with suitable rental introductions in Paphos, Limassol, and Nicosia.
  • ✓
Clean Criminal Record Certificate from your country of residence and country of citizenship, apostilled and translated where required.
  • ✓
Valid Passport At least three months validity from the date you submit the application.

The documents you actually have to produce

This is the registration list for the first temporary residence permit, the file you submit after you arrive in the Republic. Nine items. Most of them are ordinary. Three of them catch almost everybody out.

Official source. Registration and first temporary residence permit document list, Cyprus Migration Department. Last reviewed 16 October 2026.

  1. Your passport, valid for at least three months

A copy of a valid passport or other travel document with at least three months validity from the date you submit. Not three months from arrival, and not twelve months, which is what a lot of guides tell people. If your passport is close to that line, renew before you file rather than after.

  2. The passport page showing your last entry

A copy of the page carrying the entry stamp for your most recent arrival in the Republic. This is why the file is submitted after you land. If you entered through a route that left you without a legible stamp, sort that out before you build the rest of the file.

  3. Proof of what you do and who you do it for

This item splits depending on how you earn.

If you are employed by a company registered abroad, you need an employment contract of indefinite duration or at least as long as the permit you are asking for, a confirmation from your employer that you can perform your duties remotely and that the work does not involve activity or services for an employer registered in Cyprus, a duly stamped copy of the company's registration certificate abroad showing legal name, registered base, activity field and corporate purpose, the company's contact details, and a statement of your status within it.

If you are self employed, you need contracts for project or services running at least as long as the permit, and your own confirmation that the work is remote and is not for a client established in Cyprus.

The phrase that matters in both versions is registered in Cyprus. The test is where your payer is established, not where you are sitting when you work.

  4. Proof of income, and six months of it

You must show stable monthly resources of at least €3,500 net, meaning after contributions and taxes. Two things prove it, and you need both: proof of salary payment showing the net figure, and detailed bank statements covering the last six months that demonstrate a stable income arising outside the Republic.

If your situation produces no clean proof of net income, there is a defined fallback. You sign an Affirmation certifying that your net income, after contributions and taxes on the figures in the documents you filed, is not below the required minimum. Use it where it genuinely applies. Do not reach for it to paper over statements that do not support the number.

  5. An original criminal record certificate

From your country of origin, or from your country of residence if you live somewhere other than your country of origin. It must be the original, not a scan or a copy. Order it early. In several countries this is the slowest document in the file, and it has a shelf life, so ordering it far too early is its own mistake.

  6. Blood tests and a chest x ray

This is the requirement people do not see coming. You need original blood analysis results showing you do not have HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B or hepatitis C, together with chest x rays for tuberculosis, all duly certified by a specialised doctor.

It is a medical appointment, a laboratory turnaround and a doctor's certification, so it is not something to leave until the week you want to file. It is also worth having done in Cyprus where the certifying format is familiar, rather than arriving with paperwork that has to be re done.

  7. Health insurance that covers three things

A certificate of health insurance for medical care covering inpatient care, outpatient care and transportation of corpse, referred to as Plan A. That third element is the one ordinary travel policies leave out, and a policy missing it will not satisfy the requirement however generous the rest of the cover looks.

  8. Accommodation, stamped, with a utility bill

A title deed or rental agreement for a house or apartment. If the agreement is valued over €5,000 it must be duly stamped. You also need a corresponding utility bill, meaning one that matches the address on the agreement.

Two practical consequences. Stamping is a step with its own timing and cost, so sign the lease with that in mind. And a brand new rental may not have produced a bill yet in your name, which is a very common reason a file waits.

  9. The affirmation about Cyprus work

An Affirmation in which you commit that neither you nor your family members will provide work, services or project in any way to an employer or clients established in Cyprus. This is the core condition of the permit rather than a formality. Taking on one Cyprus client later is not a small breach, it is working against the terms you signed.

What the income threshold becomes with a family

The €3,500 is the figure for a single applicant. It rises by 20 per cent for a spouse or partner and 15 per cent for each child, calculated on the base amount. In practice that means the following, all net.

Who is applyingNet monthly income required
You alone€3,500
You and a spouse or partner€4,200
You and one child€4,025
You, a spouse and one child€4,725
You, a spouse and two children€5,250

Read the word net carefully. The threshold is what lands after contributions and tax, not your headline salary. A gross figure comfortably above €3,500 can fall short once deductions come off, and that is a far more common reason for a problem than people expect.

The part nobody mentions: there is a cap

The scheme is capped. It launched with 500 permits, and the cap was doubled to 1,000 in October 2025. The Migration Department does not publish a running count of how many places remain, and the scheme has closed to new applications once before, when the original allocation filled.

No one can tell you how long the current allocation lasts, and anyone who gives you a date is guessing. What it does mean is that a file assembled slowly over several months carries a risk that a file assembled properly in a few weeks does not.

The order that saves the most time

Start the criminal record certificate and the employer confirmation first, because both depend on somebody else. Book the blood tests and x ray as soon as you arrive. Sign and stamp the lease, then wait for the first utility bill. Pull the six months of bank statements last so they are as current as possible when you file. Submit once, complete.

Before you book flights. The two items worth checking first are whether your income is net of deductions above the threshold that applies to your family, and whether your employer will put the remote work confirmation in writing on company paper. If either is uncertain, that is the conversation to have now rather than after you arrive. Talk it through.

The Tax Case for Cyprus
as a Digital Nomad

This is where Cyprus separates from every other European nomad visa destination. The permit itself is just the starting point. The non-dom tax election is the reason serious remote workers choose Cyprus over Portugal, Georgia, or Dubai.

0%
Dividends (Non-Dom)

Zero Tax on Dividends

If you own a company (Cyprus or foreign) and pay yourself via dividends, Cyprus non-dom status means 0% Special Defence Contribution tax for up to 17 years.

0%
Capital Gains

Zero Tax on Capital Gains

Disposals of shares, cryptocurrency, and foreign property are subject to 0% capital gains tax for non-dom Cyprus residents. One of the few EU jurisdictions that offers this.

60
Days · Tax Residency Rule

Only 60 Days to Qualify

Unlike the standard 183-day rule, Cyprus allows you to become a tax resident after just 60 days, provided you don't spend 183+ days in any other single country and you maintain economic ties in Cyprus.

The 60-Day Non-Dom Combination: The Structure That Changes Everything

60 days in Cyprus. The right tax elections filed in the right order. A non-dom declaration in place. From that point, the tax position on your dividends, capital gains, and depending on your income level and structure, potentially your employment income too, changes significantly. Whether this applies to you, and exactly how it works with your income type, is the conversation we need to have before you move anything. Book a call.

Digital Nomad Visa:
Questions Answered

Non-EU nationals who work remotely for employers or clients based entirely outside Cyprus. You must earn at least €3,500/month net, hold valid health insurance, and have confirmed accommodation in Cyprus. EU nationals do not need this visa. They register freely under EU treaty rights and receive a Registration Certificate (MEU1) within weeks.
The initial permit is issued for 1 year. It can be renewed twice, giving a maximum of 3 consecutive years under the digital nomad category. After 3 years, the permit cannot be extended further. What comes next depends on how you have structured your time and ties in Cyprus. We plan this transition from day one so there are no gaps in your legal status.
Potentially very little, but it depends entirely on how your income is structured and whether you elect Cyprus tax residency. The 60-day rule, non-dom status, and a specific employment income exemption that may apply to remote workers all interact differently depending on your situation. This is where the strategy call matters most. We map your exact position before you make any decisions.
No. The Digital Nomad Visa requires that your employer or clients are based outside Cyprus. Working for or providing services to Cypriot based companies or clients is not permitted under this permit. If you want to do business within Cyprus, the appropriate route is setting up a Cyprus company (which you can own as a non-resident director) or transitioning to a different permit category. We assess your situation and recommend the right structure.
Yes. A spouse and dependent minor children can join you under derived residence permits at no additional income requirement. Family members cannot work for Cypriot employers but can otherwise live freely, access healthcare, and enrol children in school.
The Yellow Slip (MEU1 Registration Certificate) is for EU nationals only. It confirms their right to reside in Cyprus as EU citizens. Non-EU nationals on the Digital Nomad Visa receive the Pink Slip (Alien Registration Card), renewed annually alongside the permit. They are two separate documents for two different groups of people. After your Digital Nomad Visa period, permanent residency requires a separate application. What route makes sense depends on how you have used your time in Cyprus. We plan this from the first conversation.
The file is more involved than most people expect. What qualifies as acceptable income evidence, how your contracts need to be presented, and what apostille and translation requirements apply to your specific nationality all affect whether your application is approved first time. We review your full situation before submission and build the file correctly. Book a call to get your exact list.
The Digital Nomad Visa is a temporary permit, maximum 3 years, for non-EU remote workers. Category F is a permanent residency with no time limit and a different set of financial requirements. There is no automatic conversion from DNV to Category F, and the DNV alone does not meet the continuous residence threshold for standard permanent residency. What you do after year 3 is the part most people do not plan for early enough. We structure the full pathway from the first conversation.
Nine items for the registration and first temporary residence permit: a passport valid at least three months from submission, a copy of the page showing your last entry into the Republic, proof of your remote work arrangement, proof of income with six months of bank statements, an original criminal record certificate, original blood tests and a chest x ray, Plan A health insurance, a stamped rental agreement with a matching utility bill, and an affirmation that you will not work for anyone established in Cyprus.
Yes, and it surprises most applicants. You need original blood analysis results showing you do not have HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B or hepatitis C, together with chest x rays for tuberculosis, all certified by a specialised doctor. It involves an appointment, a laboratory turnaround and certification, so it is not something to leave until the week you intend to file.
The base is €3,500 net per month, increased by 20 per cent for a spouse or partner and 15 per cent for each child. That is €4,200 for a couple, €4,025 for a single parent with one child, €4,725 for a couple with one child and €5,250 for a couple with two. Net means after contributions and tax, not your headline salary.
At least three months from the date you submit the application. Many guides quote twelve months, which is the rule for other permits and not this one. If your passport sits close to that line it is still worth renewing first, because the permit itself runs for a year.
Yes. The scheme is capped. It launched with 500 permits and the cap was doubled to 1,000 in October 2025. The Migration Department does not publish a running count of remaining places, and the scheme has closed to new applications once before when the original allocation filled. Nobody can tell you how long the current allocation lasts.
A policy covering inpatient care, outpatient care and transportation of corpse, referred to as Plan A. That third element is the one ordinary travel and expat policies leave out, and a policy missing it will not satisfy the requirement however good the rest of the cover is.
